This is a very simple demonstration of the "binary search" technique often used for quickly retreiving data from a database. It is implemented as a CGI script written in Perl.
Pick and memorize any number between 0 and 255.
The computer will then show you eight separate pages of numbers.
Search carefully for your selected number on each page and then click the appropriate radio button.
After the eighth page the computer will display your number.
If you're curious about how this works, first, play the game again and watch the page numbers as well as the top left corner number on each page.
Still curious, send me email.
